Choosing your MC (Master of Ceremonies)

Many people use a trusted friend or relative to MC their wedding reception… and for many couples that works out pretty well. However there is a lot more to MCing than just grabbing a microphone and telling people what to do!

Jake was our Celebrant and MC and WOW, I can honestly say the day would not have been as successful without him. Jake is extremely patient, professional and confident in everything that he does. The day ran perfectly thanks to him. He calmed my nerves and jitters prior to walking down the aisle, made me feel confident and even got a bit of laughter out of me. We received so many compliments, guests said it was the best wedding they’d ever been to and I really put that down to the atmosphere Jake created. He listened to the vibe and knew exactly when to make things happen. Thanks so much Jake you are worth every cent and if we could do it all over again we would pick you!

A good MC will:

  • Arrive prepared

  • Make adjustments to the run sheet both before and (if necessary) on the day to suit the couples wishes

  • Minimise disruptions to the couple so they can focus on enjoying their time

  • Help all guests feel like they’re in good hands, that the event flows seamlessly and that everyone has a great time

  • Ensure all transitions are well thought-out, deliberate and flow smoothly to maintain the momentum

  • Minimise on-mic interruptions and only use the mic when appropriate and necessary

  • Welcome guests and move around the room checking in with them throughout the evening

  • Assist any speech-makers so that they can be at their best (and help them manage any speech-stress!)

  • Understand and work with all service providers so that they are able to serve the couple to the very best of their ability

  • When using the mic, address guests with confidence and warmth, utilise levity, maximise authenticity and avoid awkwardness

  • Not have very much free time to socialise or relax!!

‘From our very first meeting with you we knew “you were our man”. Your charisma, charm, humour and relaxed approach was exactly what we were looking for and we are so delighted that this has shone through from start to finish. Our ceremony was perfect. Thank you.

Our second best decision was to ask you if you could MC our wedding. Every aspect was seamless. We had many people ask if we had some sort of friendship with you prior….nope! Jake again, you were everything we had hoped, the reception was so much fun, we had nothing to check in on or worry about the whole night…until you told me we had only 45mins to go. No!!! The atmosphere you created and your easy, caring and humorous personality fully engaged our family and guests...

If you’re choosing a guest to MC for you we’d suggest looking for the following qualities:

  • Organisational and event-planning skills

  • Clear and confident communication both face to face and over a microphone

  • At least a little self control (especially with the liquid courage!)

  • A good general understanding of (and empathy for) the roles of your wedding photographer, videographer, entertainers and caterers.

Why book Jake as your Master of Ceremonies?

  • He will continue to build on the rapport he established with your guests during the ceremony; it will transition seamlessly, create continuity and build momentum

  • He has extensive organisational experience both within and outside the wedding industry

  • He speaks professionally over 200 times per year and is always striving to represent his clients well

  • He has a clear understanding of what it takes to empower your chosen service providers to be at their best

What does it cost to have Jake MC?

There are several variables that effect the MC fee, namely the timing, duration and location of the reception and the type of venue. We will provide you with a firm quote upon request which is likely to fall between $1000 and $1400
